Jalandhar: A Sudanese student enrolled at Lovely Professional University was tragically stabbed to death by a group of six students in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred outside the university campus in Maheru village, where both the victims and the accused were residing in private accommodations, reported the Times of India.
Another Sudanese student, Ahmed Mohamad Nour Ahmad Hussen, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. According to his statement to the police, he and his friend, Mohamad Wada Bala Youssif Ahmad (the deceased), along with three Sudanese women students, were on their way to offer namaz at around 4 a.m. when a group of six to seven individuals confronted them and began harassing the women.
Ahmed said the assailants demanded the women’s phone numbers and used abusive language. When he and his friend tried to intervene, the attackers turned violent. Two of them allegedly pulled out knives and began stabbing Ahmed and Mohamad in the chest.
A local resident, Prabhat Dubey, rushed to their aid after hearing their cries for help, prompting the attackers to flee. He took the victims to Johal Hospital, where Mohamad Wada was declared dead.
Based on Ahmed’s statement, the police have named six suspects: Abdul Ahadh (from Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka), Kunwar Amar Partap Singh, Aditya Garg, Mohamad Shoib, Sushak Shaggy, and Yash Vardhan Rajput. All of them reportedly reside in Maheru Colony.
A case has been registered under Sections 109, 103(1), 190, and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the accused, confirmed Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti.
