Supreme Court Dismisses Plea for Nationwide Implementation of NEP Including Tamil Nadu

New Delhi — The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking directions to enforce the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, including its three-language formula, across all states, particularly Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal, reported the Sahil Online.
A bench comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan ruled that the apex court cannot compel state governments to adopt the NEP, observing that such directives do not fall under the jurisdiction of Article 32 of the Constitution.
“The Supreme Court can intervene under Article 32 to protect fundamental rights, but it cannot force states to implement a central policy like NEP unless there’s a violation of legal or constitutional rights,” the bench stated.
The court also questioned the petitioner’s standing in the matter, noting that although he hails from Tamil Nadu, he currently resides in New Delhi. “The issue may be examined in an appropriate case, but this particular petition does not warrant such a review,” the bench added.
The plea was filed by advocate G.S. Mani, who sought uniform implementation of the NEP across India.
