Supreme Court Grants Bail to MLA Abbas Ansari in Money Laundering Case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to MLA Abbas Ansari in a case concerning money laundering charges. Ansari, the son of the late gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested in connection with an alleged complex money laundering operation, reports The Hindu.

A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Pankaj Mithal approved the bail after noting a lack of direct evidence linking Abbas Ansari to the alleged criminal activities. The Court emphasized the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and highlighted the significant progress made in the investigation.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had accused Ansari of being a part of an intricate money laundering network supporting illegal operations. However, the Court observed that there was no indication that Ansari’s release would lead to tampering with evidence.

As part of the bail conditions, Abbas Ansari must make regular appearances before the investigating officer and cannot leave the country without prior approval. The decision marks a significant development in the case, which has drawn attention due to his family’s political connections and recent controversies.
