New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Madhya Pradesh High Court order that directed the registration of an FIR and formation of a Special Investigation Team against Congress MLA Arif Masood in a fake documents case. A bench of Justices J. K. Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi also issued notice to the state government on an appeal filed by the college linked to the case.
The controversy began when the Madhya Pradesh government cancelled the recognition of Indira Priyadarshini College in Bhopal on June 9. The college is run by Aman Education Society, where Masood serves as secretary. Following the cancellation, Masood moved the high court, which ordered the FIR and SIT probe. The case was registered at Koh-e-Fiza Police Station under sections of cheating and using forged documents.
The Supreme Court’s stay order brings temporary relief to Masood as proceedings continue.
