Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, has once again stirred controversy with his remarks against Muslim MLAs. His statement comes a day after a BJP MLA defected to the Trinamool Congress.
Adhikari declared, “After BJP comes to power in 2026, we will take Muslim MLAs from Trinamool Congress and throw them out of the assembly.”
He further accused the ruling party of bias and compared it to the “Muslim League.”
Currently under suspension for allegedly misbehaving with the speaker, Adhikari has frequently accused the Trinamool Congress of communal politics. His latest comments drew sharp criticism, with Trinamool leaders labeling him “mentally unstable” and accusing him of delivering hate speech.
Previously, after the BJP’s defeat in the 2024 elections, Adhikari had sparked outrage by stating that the party only stands with those who support and vote for them.
His remarks have intensified political tensions in the state, with many condemning his divisive rhetoric.
