Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirodjiddin Mukhriddin, has urged the international community to increase assistance to Afghanistan as the country continues to grapple with security and socio-economic difficulties.
Speaking at a press conference, Mukhriddin said Tajikistan and Afghanistan maintain active coordination between their law enforcement agencies to prevent security incidents along their shared border. He noted that such cooperation has become increasingly important amid a recent rise in armed attacks and criminal activity in border regions.
According to the minister, Afghan authorities have assured Tajikistan that they will take necessary measures to prevent further incidents and conduct thorough investigations into any violations.
Mukhriddin reiterated Tajikistan’s support for constructive international engagement aimed at improving Afghanistan’s socio-economic conditions. He highlighted that Tajikistan delivered more than 6,000 tons of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in 2025, including food and essential supplies for communities affected by devastating earthquakes.
The foreign minister also underscored growing economic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. Tajikistan has reopened border markets and continues to supply electricity to Afghanistan, strengthening cross-border trade and energy ties.
Tajikistan and Afghanistan share a border stretching over 1,300 kilometers, including more than 1,100 kilometers of waterways and approximately 190 kilometers of land boundary.
Meanwhile, Zafar Samad, Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan, reported that 17 clashes with drug smugglers occurred along the Afghan border last year. He said two Tajik security personnel and 10 Afghan nationals were killed in those incidents.
