Taliban Secures Diplomatic Victories, Consolidates Power Internally

Kabul, August 13, 2024: Three years into its rule, Afghanistan’s Taliban government has managed to secure some diplomatic victories despite remaining unrecognized by any country. These efforts have helped the Taliban consolidate power internally, even as their strict enforcement of Islamic law and severe restrictions on women continue to draw global condemnation, reports The Hindu.

One of the Taliban’s key diplomatic engagements was a recent meeting in Doha, Qatar, where Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief spokesman for the Taliban, held discussions with Zamir Kabulov, the Russian Presidential Envoy to Afghanistan. This meeting highlights the Taliban’s ongoing efforts to build international relations, particularly with countries that have shown some willingness to engage with the regime.

Despite the challenges, the Taliban has steadily consolidated its control over Afghanistan, enforcing its interpretation of Islamic law across the country.

The international community remains deeply divided over how to approach the Taliban. As the Taliban continues to navigate this complex landscape, the question of its legitimacy and future role in global affairs remains unresolved.
