Bhatkal: In a momentous event marked by joy and reverence, the newly expanded and elegantly renovated Tanzeem Milliya Masjid in Bhatkal’s Nawayath Colony was formally inaugurated, earning its place as Karnataka’s second-largest mosque. With the capacity to accommodate 10,000 worshippers, this architectural gem now stands just behind Bengaluru’s City Jamia Masjid in size, reported the SahilOnline.
Originally established in 1962 and designated a Jumma Masjid two years later, the mosque has witnessed decades of community growth. The rising number of worshippers from Bhatkal, especially from Nawayath Colony, Azad Nagar, and Kargedde, made expansion inevitable. After 16 years of unwavering community effort, the dream has finally materialized into a majestic three-storey masjid spread over 70,000 square feet, rising to a height of 85 feet.
Currently, the first floor serves as the main prayer hall, while plans are underway to convert the ground floor into a modern Islamic center. Both floors will be opened during Jumma and Eid prayers. The mosque features six entrances, two elevators, and ample parking inside and along the roadside for the convenience of worshippers.
In addition to its spacious prayer areas, the masjid boasts wudu facilities for 150 people at once, separate washrooms and wudu spaces on the upper floor, and dedicated prayer halls for women, especially catering to female worshippers visiting from outside the town.
The entire project was executed under the supervision of Majlis-e-Millia. At the inauguration, mosque committee president Mr. Ateequr Rahman Muniri expressed immense pride in the mosque, describing it as a model Islamic center for the coastal region. He specially acknowledged the Young Muslim Service Association (YMSA) and the support of the Bhatkal diaspora in the Gulf, along with generous contributions by noted businessmen Mr. Abdul Bari Mohtisham and Mr. Mohtisham Abdur Rahman Jan.
The event saw the presence of esteemed personalities such as Maulana Mohammed Umrain Mahfooz Rahmani (Secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board), Maulana Khwaja Muinuddin Akrami Madani, Maulana Ansar Khatib Madani, Maulana Sadiq Akrami Nadwi, and other scholars, including committee members and local leaders.
This grand masjid is more than a place of worship—it is a beacon of unity, spirituality, and community service, ready to serve generations to come with its fusion of modern amenities and timeless Islamic spirit.
