Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this week, Iran has expressed its willingness to act as a mediator between India and Pakistan, citing its strong ties with both nations, reported the Siasat.
“Iran considers India and Pakistan as brotherly neighbours with centuries-old cultural and civilizational bonds. In this difficult time, Tehran is ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to foster greater understanding,” Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated on X.
To emphasize the spirit of unity, Araghchi quoted 13th-century Persian poet Saadi Shirazi:
“Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul; If one member is afflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain.”
The Pahalgam attack, described as one of the most horrific assaults in recent memory, claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists and left several others critically injured. It occurred in Baisaran Valley when four heavily armed terrorists — two reportedly from Pakistan — opened indiscriminate fire on visitors.
India responded swiftly with a series of strong diplomatic and strategic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani military attaches, shutting down the Attari-Wagah border, and cancelling the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals. The attack has led to widespread international condemnation, further isolating Pakistan.
Intelligence reports have identified The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, as being responsible for the assault.
Earlier, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi also condemned the attack, extending condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
