Patna: RJD leader and Opposition’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Prasad Yadav announced that the INDIA bloc will repeal the Waqf (Amendment) Act if voted to power in Bihar. Addressing rallies in the Muslim-majority districts of Katihar and Kishanganj, he said, “If we are voted to power, the Waqf Bill will be thrown into the dustbin.”
Yadav accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of aligning with the BJP and RSS, saying they were responsible for spreading communal hatred across the country. He added that those who insulted the Muslim community were now questioning him about Muslim representation in his future cabinet.
Passed by Parliament in April, the Waqf (Amendment) Act was presented by the NDA as a measure to increase transparency and empower backward Muslims and women. The Opposition, however, described it as interference in the religious and administrative autonomy of the community.
Yadav said the people of Bihar were tired of Nitish Kumar’s 20-year rule, marked by corruption and a breakdown of law and order. He promised to form a Seemanchal Development Authority to focus on the neglected border region.
In his speeches, Yadav also pledged to double the allowances and provide pension benefits to representatives of Bihar’s Panchayati Raj system, along with a ₹50 lakh insurance cover. He reiterated that the INDIA bloc’s goal was to restore justice and uplift the marginalized.
