Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced a ₹1,000 crore allocation for the overhaul of Osmania University. He addressed faculty and students on campus and said the government will focus on improving infrastructure and raising academic standards. He said the university must aim for global benchmarks in teaching, research and facilities.
He recalled the role of Osmania University students during the final phase of the Telangana movement. He said their participation shaped public mobilisation in the years leading to statehood in 2014. He said the government wants to expand access to quality education across the state. He pointed to new plans for integrated residential schools and the Young Indian Skills University. He said these initiatives link learning with employment needs.
He said a committee has started work on identifying vacant posts in teaching and non-teaching departments. He said the government will speed up the recruitment process. He encouraged the administration to include students while finalising the models for new buildings and laboratories. He released a QR code for feedback to collect suggestions from stakeholders.
Osmania University was founded in 1918 by Mir Osman Ali Khan. It is one of the oldest universities in India and holds a central place in the history of Hyderabad. The new funding is expected to guide long-term planning. It also reflects the government’s attempt to link heritage institutions with current educational demands.
