Hyderabad, Mar. 2: The government of Telangana has appointed senior Congress leader as chairman of Telangana Urdu Academy and Obaidullah Kotwal as chairman of Telangana State Minorities Finance Corporation.
Nearly three months after coming to power, the Congress government has started rewarding its Muslim leaders with nominated posts.
A few days after nomination of Syed Azmatullah Hussaini as the member of Wakf Board and his subsequent election as the chairman, the government has issued orders appointing heads of Urdu Academy and Minority Finance Corporation.
The government has also nominated four members of Urdu Academy. Secretary, Minorities Welfare, Secretary, Finance, Commissioner and Director, Minorities Welfare will be members of Urdu Academy. Director and Secretary of Telangana Urdu Academy will be the fourth member.
As per the Government Order, the term of chairman and members of Urdu Academy will be three years.
The government has nominated senior leader Obaidullah Kotwal as chairman of Minorities Finance Corporation for three years. He comes from Mahabubnagar district.
The government has not yet taken a decision about the chairman of the Haj Committee. Several names are said to be under consideration for the post.
Belonging to Nizamabad district, Taher Bin Hamdan had contested as Congress candidate from Nizamabad Urban constituency in 2018 Assembly elections but finished runner-up. In the recent elections, the Congress had not fielded him. Senior leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir was given the ticket but he too failed to win the seat.
