Telangana seeks applications from minority students for overseas scholarship scheme

Hyderabad, July 5: Telangana’s Minorities Welfare Department has sought applications for grant of scholarships under the Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Spring Season 2024.

Under this scheme, minority students can pursue higher education in post-graduation and Ph.D courses in foreign universities in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany, South Korea, Japan, France and New Zealand.

Selected candidates will be eligible for scholarships up to Rs.20 lakh or actual fees whichever is less.

According to Tafseer Iqubal, Commissioner, Minorities Welfare, the applications will be accepted from July 8, 2024, to August 7, 2024.

The details for procedure for application are available on www.telenganaepass.cgg.gov.in. He said all desirous candidates/students can apply for sanction of Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship by logging into the above website between July 8 and August 7. Students who have taken admission during January 1, 2024 and July 31, 2024 are eligible to apply under the scheme.

The scheme was introduced in 2015 by the then government of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Since then, around 3,300 minority students from the state have availed the scheme. These students are studying in various higher educational institutions abroad.

For the year 2022, a total of 250 candidates were selected under the scheme. They comprised 143 males and 107 females.

Candidates from Muslim, Christian, Sikh, and Jain communities are eligible to apply, with merit being the primary criterion for selection.

During 2022, no applications were received from the Buddhist and Parsi communities, leading to the allocation of their seats to the Sikh and Christian communities.
