Telangana Waqf Board Land Allotment Sparks Defence Dispute and Political Row

Hyderabad: The Telangana Waqf Board’s decision to allot 2,500 square yards of land in Jubilee Hills to a private trust has led to a sharp dispute with the Ministry of Defence. The Defence Ministry claims the plot is part of defence property and cannot be transferred or allotted by any civilian authority.

The Waqf Board, however, insists that the land is registered as waqf property and was allotted in accordance with legal procedures. Officials maintain that the property has long been under the Waqf Board’s jurisdiction and deny any irregularities in the process.

The issue has triggered strong political reactions. Opposition parties have accused the ruling state government of mismanaging public assets and using waqf land to benefit private entities. They have demanded an independent inquiry into the allotment and called for transparency in waqf land administration.

Jubilee Hills, one of Hyderabad’s most valuable localities, has a long history of land ownership disputes, especially involving waqf and defence lands. The case reflects ongoing challenges in distinguishing legal ownership of lands with overlapping claims between state, religious, and central authorities.

The Defence Ministry has formally objected to the allotment and sought clarification from the state government. The matter is now under review, and both sides are preparing to submit documentation to support their claims.
