Kishangarh, June 20: On Wednesday, Kishangarh town in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district witnessed significant unrest after pieces of meat fell in the local vegetable market, sparking a violent reaction from the local community. A viral video captured an elderly man carrying meat in a sack on the back of a motorcycle, with pieces of meat falling from the sack in front of a shop.

The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, quickly escalated as allegations surfaced that the meat was deliberately thrown and that it was cow meat. Enraged by these claims, residents shut down the market and confronted the police, leading to stone-pelting that injured several officers.

Police responded with a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Despite their efforts to calm the situation, the tension remained high. Local authorities, including Sub-Divisional Officer Archana Chaudhary, Additional SP Deepak Kumar, and CO City Mahipal Singh, rushed to the scene to manage the crisis and engage with the protesters.

The person identified in the viral video, 70-year-old Bundu Khan from Gandhinagar, was detained for questioning. Khan, a retired employee, explained that he was transporting meat he had received from a sacrifice made on Eid when some pieces inadvertently fell from his bike.

Veterinary examination of the meat confirmed it was not beef but buffalo meat. DSP Mahipal Chaudhary stated that the preliminary investigation suggests the meat was not intentionally thrown. Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged the public to maintain peace.

The market remained closed for about three hours as Hindu organizations staged protests demanding action against what they perceived as an anti-social act. The stone-pelting resulted in injuries to the DSP’s vehicle driver and damage to police property. The injured officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

SP Devendra Bishnoi confirmed that Bundu Khan is cooperating with the investigation. The police have appealed to the public to resume their daily activities and assured them that the situation is now under control.

The authorities emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and order in the community as the investigation continues.
