Thailand Forms Muslim Scholars Council to Advance Islamic Education

Bangkok: Thailand announced the formation of the Muslim Scholars Council of Thailand after a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the Central Islamic Council of Thailand. The initiative targets stronger Islamic education and academic research across the country.

The signing ceremony took place in Bangkok on December 4. The country’s Grand Mufti attended the event along with senior officials and academics. The Minister of Higher Education chaired the ceremony. Diplomats, university leaders, and researchers from multiple institutions joined the gathering.

Officials said the council represents a strategic partnership focused on improving education standards, supporting joint research, and developing academic curricula. The plan includes structured cooperation between universities and community institutions. Authorities highlighted support for young scholars through training, mentorship, and research platforms.

The agreement also marked the launch of the first phase of the Thailand Centre for Islamic Education. Twelve universities and community colleges across Thailand joined the phase. Officials described the step as a move toward a national academic network for Islamic studies.

Government representatives said the framework aims to place Thailand as a regional hub for Islamic studies. The council will coordinate academic programs, research exchanges, and curriculum development. Leaders present stressed inclusive education and cultural exchange rooted in Islamic values.

The council plans academic workshops and peer reviewed research outputs. Universities will share resources and faculty expertise. Community colleges will link local needs with academic programs. Officials view the network as a pathway for skills development and employment readiness. The initiative aligns national education goals with Islamic scholarship.
