The Qur’an is not just a book of laws or worship; it’s a book of signs. These signs invite us to think, to observe, and to understand the greatness of Allah Azzawajal through everything around us.
When we look at the sky, the stars, and the vastness above, we often forget how deep those creations are. But the Qur’an reminds us again and again to reflect upon them not just as scenery, but as proofs of the power of our Creator.
One of the verses from the Qur’an states: “And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are surely its expander.” (Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:47)
This single verse is enough to give goosebumps to a Believer. The Qur’an mentioned the expanding nature of the universe more than 1400 years ago, while science discovered it only recently. When astronomers like Edwin Hubble found that galaxies are moving apart, it felt like the world suddenly caught up with what Allah had already revealed long ago.
And in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:30) Allah says: “Don’t those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were joined together as one unit, then We split them apart, and We made from water every living thing?”
After reading this Verse from the Qur’an we can’t help but think about the Big Bang theory: how the universe started as one mass before expanding outward. It’s almost like the Qur’an is telling us, “Look, I’ve already shown you the signs; will you not believe?”
Another verse from the holy Qur’an that powerfully fits with the title The Expanding Universe: “He created seven heavens in layers. You will not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So, look again do you see any flaws? Then look again and again, your sight will return to you humbled and fatigued.” (Surah Al-Mulk 67:3–4)
It’s so true. The more we study the universe, the more we realise how perfect it is. Every orbit, every rotation, every tiny detail runs by Allah’s command.
And again, in Surah Yasin (36:40): “It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit.”
Subhan Allah, such simple words, yet they describe the entire system of planetary motion. None of this was known to people back then.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also encouraged us to reflect on creation. He said: “Contemplate upon the creation of Allah, but do not contemplate upon the essence of Allah, for you will never be able to comprehend Him.”
Authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albani in As-Silsilah As-Sahihah, Hadith No. 1788.
And in the Qur’an, Allah reminds us: “Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.” (Surah Al-Imran 3:190)
These verses and hadith make us realise that faith isn’t just about believing blindly. It’s about seeing. Seeing Allah’s power in the smallest things and the biggest galaxies alike.
Reflection
When we think about all this: the vast sky, the expanding universe, the perfect balance in everything, Our hearts not just feel overwhelmed but with full of gratitude to our true Creator Allah. It’s fascinating to know about our surroundings, about every tiny detail Allah has placed for us. The air we breathe, the warmth of the sun, the rhythm of the seasons. Every bit of it is a sign of His mercy and perfection.
How blessed we are to live in such a perfectly designed world, filled with His signs. But how sad it is when people ignore them, when they fail to recognise the true Creator behind it all.
Allah says in Surah Ar-Rahman (55:13): “So which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?”
Truly, every discovery we make in science or in life, is just another way of uncovering what Allah has already created and perfected. And the more we learn, the more we should fall in love with Him, in awe and in humility.
Everything in this world – every star, every planet, every galaxy quietly whispers the same truth – La ilaha illa Allah.
