The Israel–Hamas War: A Stain on Humanity

– Dr. Dilshad A. Shamsi

The war in Gaza continues, and the numbers are devastating. More than 62,000 people have been killed, including over 20,000 children. Famine and malnutrition are spreading rapidly. Families are dying not only from bombs but also from hunger or better say man-made famine. And yet, the whole world is watching – the United Nations, the World Health Organisation, international NGOs, Muslim States, Muslim organisations, human rights groups – but the war has not stopped.

The question is: Why?

This is not just a political or military conflict; it’s a moral crisis. The inability of the world to stop this war reveals two main realities.

  1. A War Framed as Jews vs. Muslims

If this war had been between Jews and Christians, would it have continued this long? Likely not. The international community, especially the West, would have intervened immediately to protect Christians. But because the victims are overwhelmingly Muslim, the world shows sympathy in words, yet does little in action.

This reveals a painful truth: Muslim lives are not valued equally on the global stage. We are told this is a “civilized world,” but what civilization allows children to starve to death while global powers not only watch but also arm and fund the violence?

Israel, with the full backing of the United States and much of Europe, continues its military campaign. Prime Minister Netanyahu has shut the doors of humanity – acting with no moral restraint, no compassion, no shame. International courts have condemned Israel’s leadership, but resolutions are ignored. Meanwhile, Gaza’s people have lost everything – homes, families, hope – left only with shattered bodies and souls.

  1. What If This Were Jews vs. Christians?

History shows us the power dynamics. Israel itself was created in 1948 with the support of Western Christian nations led by the UK. Palestinians were displaced, their land occupied, and their future denied. Since then, Israel has grown stronger, shielded by American political, financial, and military backing.

Would Israel ever dare wage such a war against Christians? Never. They know it would not be tolerated. Western powers would intervene immediately. Instead, Israel wages war on Palestinians with impunity, ignoring every single UN resolution, destroying 90% of Gaza’s buildings, bombing hospitals, and pushing people to starvation.

The tragedy is that even many Muslim governments remain silent – subservient to American influence, unwilling or unable to stand for Palestine. Their silence is shameful.

A Historical Pattern of Suffering

The Jewish people themselves have endured centuries of suffering – exile, persecution, and the horrors of the Holocaust. Yet now, tragically, that same community is inflicting suffering on the Palestinians. The dream of a “Greater Israel” has turned into a nightmare for Palestinians. What was once justified as survival has become occupation, displacement, and massacre.

History will ask: how did a people who suffered so much turn into the oppressors of another?

Humanity on Trial

We are witnessing a modern holocaust in Gaza. Entire neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, families erased, and a generation of children growing up only with trauma. And the so-called civilized world does nothing.

What will history write about us? That in the 21st century, humanity failed again to stand against mass killing and starvation.

One Message to the World

In the end, everything can be summed up in one plea:

STOP THIS MASSACRE.

HUMANITY IS ASHAMED.
