The Waqf Black Act and Our Responsibility

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) organised a huge public protest conference titled Waqf Bachao, Dastoor Bachao Conference (Save Waqf, Save Constitution Conference) at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on Tuesday, 22 April 2025. A large number of religious and political leaders, including Members of Parliament, addressed the mammoth gathering present in the conference, which was part of AIMPLB’s three-month awareness campaign (from 10 April to 7 July 2025). During this conference, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Vice President of AIMPLB and National President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind called upon the citizens of India to be aware of the hidden agenda behind the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. Extract:

The renaming the Waqf Act as UMEED (Meaning-Hope) is nothing but deception in disguise. Let me tell you, this is no hope. This is Tafreeq – a law that divides. This Act sows Nafrat (hatred). This Act is drenched in injustice. This Act is atrocious.

What are the real motives behind this Waqf Act? They are all hidden within its very name. And I urge you to keep in mind these hidden meanings:

U in UMEED stands for Unconstitutional. Yes. Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 stands in clear opposition to our Constitution. It violates the soul and spirit of the Indian Constitution – specifically Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29.

M in UMEED stands for Manipulation. Yes. They have misled the Indian public through this Act. This is arbitrary. Clearly, a sinister conspiracy to seize large expanses of Waqf properties and land.

E in UMEED stands for Exclusion. This Act is clearly an attempt to isolate Muslims. A legislative discrimination has been enforced. In our nation, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, and Buddhists enjoy religious rights. Yet these very rights are being denied to and stripped off from Muslims.

The next E in UMEED is for Encroachment. The rights of the states are being encroached. The rights of minorities are being trampled upon. Even democracy itself is under attack. Preparations are in full swing to forcibly seize Waqf properties across the country.

D in UMEED stands for Division. The true objective of this Act is to divide the people on religious lines. This has always been the sole agenda of this government since its inception. The only objective is to foster division and disunity, particularly between Hindus and Muslims.

The way this Act has been introduced, and the aggressive propaganda during the past eight months – all of it makes their intentions crystal clear: to divide this nation.

But

Friends! Comrades! Youth of this nation!

The Qur’an clearly declares:

“They plotted and Allah too planned. And Allah is the best of planners.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran, 3:54)

They sought to use this Act to divide the country but their plan has got backfired. Instead, it has united people in extraordinary ways. You saw that unity alive and vibrant in the Parliament. You see it in the unceasing, unending and massive protests across the nation. Our Hindu brothers, Sikh brothers, and prominent leaders from Opposition parties, all have taken to the streets. This unity, this togetherness and oneness is the true strength of our nation. And this law has awakened it.

Now the real question is: What should we do?

Let me explain this, using a simple acronym that mirrors theirs – one you can easily remember.

Using the acronym WAQF, I want to outline the actions we must take.

W in WAQF stands for Wake Up.

Rise! Step out of your homes. Raise your voices against this black law. Inform your neighbours. Speak to your families. Talk to your friends. If one chooses to be silent even in these turbulent times of gross injustice and tyranny, History will never forgive him. Let us awaken. Let us awaken others. Let us vow to do so.

A in WAQF stands for Action.

We must act. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) which is an umbrella body representing Muslims across all Jamaats, Parties, Organisations irrespective of schools of thoughts has spearheaded a nationwide Campaign against this Black Act. Whatever they suggest, follow it sincerely whether it’s sending emails, wearing black badges, turning off lights, or joining protests. If 200 million Muslims rise with 1.2 billion fellow citizens, we can put an end to this tyranny.

Q in WAQF stands for Question.

Ask questions. MPs have raised questions in Parliament. The Supreme Court had posed sharp queries. The government which had been Tomtoming the benefits of this Act for the past eight months is dumbstruck. It has no answers. Just yesterday, when the Supreme Court asked two simple questions, the Government pleaded for 24 hours. Then they asked a respite of seven days. And they will likely ask for more time again.

So, you ask:

If Hindus are being added to Waqf Boards, will Muslims be allowed on Hindu temple boards?

Ask the media. Ask on social platforms. Questions can shift the course of debate.

F in WAQF stands for Fixing the Narrative.

Break their narrative. Use informed arguments and piercing questions to dismantle their false narrative. Reclaim the conversation. Change public opinion. Shift the discourse.

With these four steps, we can change the fate of our nation. We can end the unbroken chain of oppression that has lasted more than a decade. This black law might just be the final nail in the coffin of tyranny. In Sha’ Allah, it will mark the dawn of a new beginning.

Take it back! Take back the Waqf Act!
