12 June 2024: Militants attacked a joint police and security forces checkpoint in the Chattergala area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday night, injuring six people, including five soldiers. This marks the third terror strike in the otherwise peaceful Jammu region since Sunday evening, reports The Indian Express.
The assault occurred at approximately 8 PM in the scenic Chattergala area, situated 12,000 feet above sea level. Militants opened fire on a tin shed that housed the checkpoint and hurled a grenade, prompting security forces to retaliate. The exchange of fire lasted until the early hours of Wednesday.
The injured soldiers and a special police officer were initially taken to Bhaderwah hospital and later transferred to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur. Security reinforcements have been dispatched to Chattergala, located about 35 km from Bhaderwah, and all vehicle movement towards the area has been halted as the search for the militants continues.
This attack follows a strike in the Saida village of Kathua district on Tuesday evening, where a civilian was injured. The police neutralized one militant and continue to search for his accomplice. On Sunday, militants attacked a bus in Reasi district’s Pouni area, resulting in nine deaths, including seven pilgrims, and injuring 38 others. Authorities have released a sketch of one militant involved in the bus attack and announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for information leading to his capture.
The recent surge in militant activities has heightened security concerns in the Jammu region, leading to intensified security measures and ongoing search operations by the authorities.
