Ticket Rates Skyrocket as Israel-Iran Conflict Disrupts Kerala-Gulf Flight Services

Thiruvananthapuram: As tensions escalate in West Asia following the conflict between Israel and Iran, airline ticket prices from Kerala to Gulf countries have surged dramatically, causing distress among Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) and travel agents alike, as per a report by the Madhyamam.
The volatile geopolitical situation has led to reduced flight operations, triggering a sharp increase in airfares. According to reports, one-way ticket prices from Kerala to destinations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh have nearly doubled. A ticket that would typically cost ₹15,000-₹20,000 is now being sold for ₹35,000-₹45,000 or even more, depending on the airline and timing.
Travel agents in Kerala have noted a significant drop in seat availability due to multiple airlines cutting back on their West Asia routes. “The demand remains constant, especially with the vacation season and festival returns, but the supply has shrunk, leading to these exorbitant rates,” said a Kochi-based travel consultant.
The crisis has especially impacted the large Malayali expatriate population working in Gulf countries, many of whom had planned to return after Eid celebrations. Families with urgent travel needs are finding it hard to afford tickets or even secure seats.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on whether special arrangements or relief flights will be considered. Meanwhile, passengers and stakeholders continue to hope for de-escalation in the region to stabilize flight services and ticket prices.
