Kolkata – The Trinamool Congress (TMC) today put Sajnur Parveen of Malda district before the media in Kolkata, presenting her as a victim of alleged torture and extortion at the hands of individuals posing as Delhi Police officers , reported the Deccan Herald.
According to Parveen, four people—two men and two women in plainclothes—raided her rented accommodation in Delhi after accusing her of being Bangladeshi despite her Aadhaar and voter documents. She was allegedly taken the following day to a secluded spot near Mangalam Hospital, where she and her two-year‑old son were slapped, kicked in the stomach and chest , and ordered to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. When she refused, she says, the assault intensified. They allegedly extorted ₹25,000, confiscated her documents and phone, forced her to sign undisclosed papers, and refused medical care after the child was injured .
TMC leaders including MP Kunal Ghosh, state minister Firhad Hakim, and MP Mausam Noor accompanied Parveen during the press conference and stated that the party will rehabilitate the family and help restore their documents .Parveen’s family also lodged a formal complaint at Pragati Maidan police station in Kolkata .
Delhi Police, however, strongly deny the allegations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania described the assault claims and the circulated video as politically motivated and asserted that no officers had mistreated the family .
The incident has added to an escalating dispute between West Bengal and Delhi authorities over the treatment of Bengali‑speaking migrants amid rising tensions ahead of West Bengal’s assembly elections .
