TMC Holds Protests across West Bengal, Condemns Amit Shah’s Remarks about Dr. Ambedkar

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) held protests across West Bengal on Monday to condemn Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described the comments as derogatory and casteist, sparking widespread outrage. The protests, which took place at various locations, included ministers and party leaders advocating for the protection of minorities and condemning the political exploitation of violence.

Protesters carried flags, placards, and chanted slogans opposing Shah’s remarks. These demonstrations were a response to Shah’s statement during a Rajya Sabha debate, where he suggested that invoking Ambedkar’s name had become a superficial trend, likening it to a religious chant for divine rewards.

Chief Minister Banerjee strongly criticised Shah’s comments, reiterating her stance that they were offensive and casteist. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh also raised concerns about attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, accusing the central government of politically motivated responses to such crises.

Speaking to Radiance News, state minister Siddiqullah Choudhary said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, protests are being held across West Bengal.”

Choudhary accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of disrespecting the Constitution and its architect, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

“This is unacceptable. The BJP discriminates against Dalits and Adivasis, mocking and insulting them, including Dr. Ambedkar,” he stated.

“Our aim is to show that we stand with people from all communities and ensure their voices are heard,” Choudhary added.
