TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee Criticizes PM Modi’s Meditation as ‘Taxpayer-Funded Media Spectacle’

1 June 2024: In a recent statement, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation session at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, labeling it a “media spectacle” funded by taxpayer money. Banerjee argued that while meditation is a positive practice, it should not be turned into a public relations exercise. He also questioned the Prime Minister’s confidence in his electoral prospects, suggesting that the meditation event was a distraction from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) alleged undermining of democratic institutions.

Banerjee expressed skepticism over Modi’s claims of electoral success, pointing out the BJP’s alleged manipulation of state machinery for political advantage. He accused the BJP of eroding democratic values and utilizing government resources for partisan purposes. Despite these challenges, Banerjee conveyed confidence in the TMC’s ability to perform well in upcoming elections, citing their continuous grassroots engagement and commitment to the public.

This criticism comes amidst a politically charged atmosphere, where opposition leaders frequently accuse the ruling party of misusing public funds for personal and political gains. Banerjee’s remarks reflect broader concerns about the integrity of democratic processes and the use of state resources in political campaigns.
