TMC to Protest against Waqf Bill on November 30

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) minority cell has planned to hold a rally on Rani Rashmoni Road on November 30 to oppose the Central Government’s proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Senior TMC leaders, including MP Kalyan Banerjee, will outline the party’s stance on the legislation during the protest.

Prominent figures such as Firhad Hakim, chairman of the minority cell, and Itahar MLA Mosaraf Hossain are expected to participate in the demonstration. Criticising the Bill, Hakim remarked, “The Central Government is trying to push an undemocratic bill in Parliament. Protests are happening across the country, and the minority cell will join by organising a rally.”

The upcoming Winter Session of the Bengal Assembly could also see the Mamata Banerjee-led government introducing a resolution against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The TMC has consistently opposed the Central Government’s Waqf-related initiatives, arguing that they infringe on state government rights. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has publicly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue, emphasising her party’s resistance to the proposed legislation.
