New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, the Congress gained momentum with the induction of Mausam Noor, a sitting Rajya Sabha member elected from the Trinamool Congress. She joined the Congress on Saturday in the presence of senior party leaders.
AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh formally inducted her. Congress General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir, State Congress President Subhankar Sarkar, and Lok Sabha member Isha Khan Chowdhury attended the programme.
Jairam Ramesh said the induction marked a positive moment for the party. He said the political atmosphere in the state was undergoing change for voters. Recalling veteran leader A.B.A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury, he said the late leader remained a respected pillar of the Congress. He said family unity within the party carried meaning for workers.
Ghulam Ahmed Mir described the move as important for the Congress organisation. He said Mausam Noor’s return to the party in the first week of 2026 reflected continuity with Congress traditions. He highlighted her family roots in the party.
Mausam Noor spoke after joining the Congress. She said returning to the party felt like returning to her family. She confirmed resignation from the Trinamool Congress and said she would submit her Rajya Sabha resignation on Monday.
She said the decision followed discussions with her brother Isha Khan Chowdhury. She said both aimed to strengthen the political legacy and ideology of Ghani Khan Chowdhury. She reaffirmed commitment to secularism, development, and peace.
