27 Apr. 24: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vigorous election campaign in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress swiftly reacted by publishing a detailed rebuttal of the statements made by the Prime Minister during his rally.
PM Modi, during his address in Malda district, accused both the Trinamool Congress and the erstwhile Left Front government of stalling the progress and development of Bengal, asserting that they had tarnished the state’s global reputation and dignity.
In response, the Trinamool Congress refuted several of PM Modi’s claims. They highlighted that the BJP government had allegedly withheld funds amounting to Rs 1.6 lakh crore earmarked for Bengal’s development. Additionally, they contested PM Modi’s assertions regarding the effectiveness of government schemes like the Kaushal Vikas Yojana and the Start Up India programme, citing low placement rates.
Moreover, the Trinamool Congress defended its stance on healthcare, pointing out that Bengal already has a comprehensive health insurance scheme called Swasthya Sathi, which offers a Rs 5 lakh cover funded entirely by the state government.
The exchange intensified as PM Modi criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government for its handling of crimes against women in Sandeshkhali. In response, the Trinamool Congress highlighted the swift action taken by the Bengal police in arresting the accused in the Sandeshkhali case, while also accusing the BJP of inaction regarding crimes committed by one of its own MPs.
The clash between the two political parties underscores the escalating tensions in the run-up to the elections in West Bengal. With both sides vehemently defending their positions, the battleground in Bengal continues to heat up as the polling day approaches.
