Trump Announces Israel’s Agreement to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Urges Hamas to Accept

In a major development aimed at halting the ongoing conflict in Gaza, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire under certain “necessary conditions.” He called on Hamas to accept the deal, warning that the situation could worsen otherwise. Trump shared the update on his social media platform, Truth Social, just days ahead of his scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, reported the Times of India.
Two senior officials from the Trump administration confirmed that while Israel has accepted the terms, Hamas is yet to respond. Trump mentioned in his post that Qatar and Egypt will act as intermediaries to deliver the final ceasefire proposal.
“My representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza,” Trump wrote, adding, “Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the war. The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring peace, will deliver this final proposal.”
Urging Hamas to act responsibly, Trump stated, “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
Earlier reports from CNN had indicated that Qatari officials submitted a new ceasefire proposal on Tuesday to both Israel and Hamas. The proposal, backed by the Trump administration, aims to end the escalating violence and restore humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The last ceasefire, brokered in January—just before Trump resumed office—lasted until March. Israel resumed attacks on Gaza citing alleged violations by Hamas, leading to a halt in aid deliveries and renewed hostilities.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is currently in Washington to hold discussions with US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Their talks are expected to focus on Gaza, Iran, and other regional security concerns.
This development marks another attempt to de-escalate the ongoing crisis that has left thousands dead and millions displaced, with humanitarian agencies continuously calling for an end to hostilities and the opening of aid corridors.
