Trump Confronts Netanyahu Over Lebanon Escalation in Heated Call

Washington: President Donald Trump expressed strong anger during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s escalation in Lebanon, according to United States officials and a source briefed on the conversation. The discussion focused on expanding Israeli military operations linked to Hezbollah activity and reported plans for further strikes.

Officials said Trump warned Netanyahu against escalation in Beirut and raised concerns about growing international isolation for Israel. He objected to reported strikes linked to civilian deaths and the demolition of buildings for targeting individual commanders. Trump linked his position to ongoing diplomatic negotiations involving Iran and regional security talks.

During the call, Trump referred to his earlier support during Netanyahu’s corruption trial and stressed his role in political backing. Officials said he described Netanyahu’s actions as excessive and damaging to diplomatic efforts. One official stated Trump raised his voice and expressed strong frustration over the direction of operations in Lebanon.

Israel has expanded ground operations in southern Lebanon. Earlier plans involving Beirut strikes were reviewed after the call. An Israeli official confirmed continued military activity against Hezbollah targets in southern areas.

United States officials described the conversation as one of the most tense exchanges since Trump returned to office. Previous communications between both leaders focused on coordination over Iran and regional security, while the latest escalation created strain in diplomatic alignment.

The call took place during active United States led negotiations with Iran, which include discussions on reducing conflict in Lebanon. After the conversation, Trump posted online that talks with Iran continue at a rapid pace.

Netanyahu maintained Israel’s position, stating operations will continue until Hezbollah stops attacks.
