Tunisian Court Sentences Ennahda Leader Rached Ghannouchi to Life Imprisonment

A Tunisian court on Tuesday issued rulings in the Ennahda Movement’s case, involving 35 defendants. The Criminal Chamber for Terrorism Cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance handed down sentences ranging from 10 years in prison to life imprisonment, with several defendants receiving lengthy cumulative prison terms.

Among those convicted was Ennahda leader Rached Ghannouchi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in addition to 30 years in prison. His deputy, Ali Laarayedh, received a 42-year prison sentence, while Mustapha Khedher was sentenced to 96 years in prison.

The court also sentenced Ridha Barouni, Al Tahar Boubehri, Kamal Aifi, and seven other defendants to life imprisonment in addition to prison terms totalling 76 years.

According to Arabi21, the combined sentences imposed on Ghannouchi amounted to 106 years in prison, alongside a life sentence.
