Kolkata: Bongaon police have arrested two people for pasting Pakistani flags on the wall of a public toilet in West Bengal. Police say that these people tried to incite communal tension. This flag was seen near Akaipur station in North 24-Parganas district late on Wednesday, which comes under Gopalnagar police station.
According to a report, the police said the accused had also planned to write provocative slogans like Hindustan Murdabad and Pakistan Zindabad on the wall to disturb peace in the area. The arrested persons have been identified as 30-year-old Chandan Malakar and 45-year-old Progyjit Mandal.
According to the police, both are residents of the area and are said to be active members of Sanatani Ekta Manch as well as a political party.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, the Bongaon police said the act was done deliberately and its aim was to spoil communal harmony. Police said that both have confessed to the act. Police said, “This was done deliberately to spread communal unrest. We will leave no stone unturned to punish those who hatched such a conspiracy.”
A case has been registered against both the people and they have been taken into custody. The police have said the investigation is ongoing and strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in trying to disrupt peace. A senior officer said the law will take its course against those who try to take advantage of religious sentiments and destabilise the atmosphere.
