Hyderabad: Two police personnel attached to the Nirmal district police headquarters have been suspended after a video surfaced showing them stepping on a poster that read “I Love Muhammad.”, reported the Deccan Times.
The incident quickly spread on social media, sparking outrage among the public. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nirmal district issued immediate suspension orders on Monday, September 29.
The SP further warned that strict action would be taken against those who attempt to spread false or misleading information related to the incident through social media platforms.
This comes amid heightened sensitivity around the “I Love Muhammad” campaign across the country, which has seen posters being displayed in different states and, in some cases, removed by local authorities.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours while investigations into the matter continue.
