U.S. Attack on Iran Backfires: Russia Signals Support, Medvedev Warns of Global Fallout

Following the controversial U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced an urgent visit to Moscow for consultations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as per a report by the Jeruselem Post. The strikes, part of a broader Israeli-led operation, were described by Washington as a preventive measure to block Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Speaking at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul, Araghchi condemned the attack as a flagrant breach of international law. “By targeting our nuclear facilities, the U.S. has crossed a major red line,” he warned. Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, Araghchi stated Iran would assert its right to self-defense.
The situation escalated further when Dmitry Medvedev, former President of Russia and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, posted a sharp rebuke of U.S. President Donald Trump on Telegram. Medvedev accused Trump of igniting a new war in the Middle East, stating, “Trump came as a peacemaker but now leads his nation into yet another conflict.”
Medvedev claimed the strikes failed to cause significant damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. He went on to make a bold revelation: “Several countries are now ready to supply Iran with nuclear warheads,” though he did not name them. He emphasized that nuclear enrichment and Iran’s weapons development would continue undeterred.
This diplomatic firestorm comes amid growing concern from the international community, with calls for de-escalation and warnings of broader regional destabilization.
