UDO Meeting Discusses State of Urdu as an Official Language in Delhi, Challenges Faced by Urdu Academy

New Delhi, 31: A meeting of the Urdu Development Organisation (UDO) was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan in Daryaganj here Friday, focusing on the status of Urdu as an official language in Delhi and the current state of Urdu Academy in the capital.

In his address, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan expressed concern over the apparent lack of interest shown by the five Muslim MLAs associated with Aam Aadmi Party regarding issues facing the Urdu language. He highlighted that despite these MLAs being elected from constituencies with considerable Urdu-speaking populations, they have neither issued any worthwhile statements addressing the problems of Urdu nor taken steps to address the shortage of teachers in Urdu-medium schools. Dr. Khan emphasized the necessity for these representatives to take proactive measures in resolving the issues faced by the Urdu-speaking community in Delhi.

Commenting on the functioning of Urdu Academy in Delhi, Dr. Khan pointed out that the Academy has been suffering from a severe shortage of permanent staff for years. He stressed the urgent need to complete the recruitment process to ensure the effective functioning of the Academy.

Despite these challenges, Dr. Khan expressed optimism about the recent formation of Urdu Academy under the leadership of Professor Shehpar Rasool. He praised Professor Rasool’s capabilities and the strength of the team, hoping that, despite the delays, the Academy will be able to restore its lost prestige. Dr. Khan further emphasized that the Urdu Academy is a non-political platform dedicated to promoting Urdu language and literature, and should remain free from any political influence.

The meeting also saw contributions from several other speakers, including Dr. Parwaz Uloom, Dr. Lal Bahadur, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Israr Ahmed Ujjaini, Hakim Muhammad Murtaza Dehlavi, Hakim Aftab Alam, Hakim Ataur Rahman Ajmali, Tahseen Ali Asarvi, and Muhammad Imran Qanuji.
