New Delhi: The United Muslims of India (UMI) has expressed concern over the activities of anti-social elements challenging the country’s unity and integrity. In a statement, UMI General Secretary Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and formulate a plan to control such elements that disrupt national dignity and peace.
Dr. Khan highlighted recent incidents targeting religious sites, including Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque, Mathura’s Shahi Idgah, Sambhal’s Jama Masjid, Badaun’s Jama Masjid, Ajmer Sharif Dargah, and Delhi’s Shahi Jama Masjid. He accused irresponsible groups of taking provocative actions that could lead to chaos and disharmony in the country.
Calling for immediate action, Dr. Khan emphasised the need for the Indian government to address the threats posed by forces destabilising national unity and peace. Referring to incidents like the mob lynching of Akhlaq over allegations of cow slaughter, he pointed out that anti-social activities have been on the rise, particularly in Hindi-speaking states, where these groups are emboldened.
He further criticised attempts by these elements to misuse lower courts for their agendas, causing harm to public interest. Dr. Khan urged the government to implement the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, with full force to preserve communal harmony. He stressed that while thousands of cases remain pending in courts, safeguarding peace and national cohesion should be a top priority for the government.
