UP Administration to Cover 10 Mosques in Sambhal During Holi Procession

In a move to maintain communal harmony, the Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to cover ten mosques in Sambhal during the Holi festival on March 14. This year, Holi coincides with a Friday in Ramadan, a rare occurrence after sixty years.
Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrish Chandra stated that the decision aims to ensure a peaceful celebration for both communities. “Ten mosques on the ‘Chaupai’ procession route will be covered to prevent any tensions,” he said, adding that this has been a long-standing practice.
Authorities have also adjusted the timings of Friday prayers and the Holi procession to avoid overlap. The Friday namaz will be conducted either before or after the procession, and entry to mosques will be restricted for outsiders.
Security measures have been strengthened, with UP Police instructed to maintain strict vigilance. A peace meeting was held at the Sambhal police station, where religious leaders discussed ways to prevent communal strife.
The ten mosques set to be covered include Shahi Jama Masjid, Ladania Wali Masjid, Thaane Wali Masjid, Ek Raat Masjid, Gurdwara Road Masjid, Gol Masjid, Khajoor Wali Masjid, Anaar Wali Masjid, and Gol Dukaan Wali Masjid.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a preventive measure while others argue it reflects the fragile state of communal coexistence.
