UP: Case filed against 57 Muslims for Offering Funeral Prayers

4 October 2023: A case has been registered against 57 people for offering funeral prayers on the road in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, the case was registered against seven named and 50 unidentified people on Saturday for offering Namaz on the road near a cemetery in Bareilly district.

As per reports available, Hafizganj station house officer (SHO) Chetram Verma has said, “Based on the complaint of sub-inspector Gajendra Singh, a case was registered against Kalua, Narbar Khan, Sabir, Janade Ali, Mohammad Umar (Village Pradhan), Urabbe Ali, Mumtaz. Apart from this, FIR has been registered against 50 unknown people under Sections 505(1)(B) and 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”

Citing the sub-inspector’s complaint, the SHO said Village Pradhan Mohammad Umar had informed the police that a person would be buried in the graveyard on Friday morning. Police said that when Nakshu Khan’s funeral procession reached the road near the cemetery, the accused offered funeral prayers there.
