Baghpat: Muslim leaders and residents in several districts of Uttar Pradesh raised concerns after Sadhvi Prachi delivered a series of provocative comments targeting madrasas and Maulana Arshad Madani of Jamiat Ulama i Hind. Her statements renewed debate on communal rhetoric and its effect on local communities.
Sadhvi Prachi claimed that madrasas in Uttar Pradesh serve as centres for terrorism training. She called for their closure and demanded investigations into institutions in Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur. She said the government must take action to reduce future threats. She also accused Maulana Madani of making statements that create unrest and push the country toward conflict. She questioned the presence of two education systems in one country under a single Constitution.
Maulana Madani has earlier spoken about discrimination in the context of multiple investigations into Al Falah University linked to the November 10 Red Fort blasts. His supporters say such investigations target Muslim institutions without fair assessment.
Local clerics and community members rejected Sadhvi Prachi’s claims. Maulana Asif Qadri from Muzaffarnagar said madrasas offer religious learning and support children’s education. He said branding them as terrorism hubs is false and dangerous. He warned that such statements increase suspicion toward Muslims.
Prachi also responded to a statement by Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir on building a Babri Masjid foundation in Murshidabad on December 6. She said no mosque should be built in the name of Babar. She added comments on the Special Intensive Review of electoral rolls and claimed infiltrators should be removed from the list.
Leaders in the region urged all sides to refrain from actions that raise tensions. They said faith and education must remain protected under the law.
