Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Waqf Tribunal has approved a six month extension for the registration of Waqf properties on the UMEED Central Portal. The decision follows requests from the UP Sunni Waqf Board and other bodies seeking more time to complete pending entries.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahli, Chairman of the Islamic Centre of India and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, welcomed the development. He said the extension offers relief to mutawallis who were struggling to meet the previous deadline. He urged all caretakers to complete registrations within the revised window.
The registration deadline has now been extended to June 5, 2026. Maulana Khalid Rashid acknowledged the efforts of Waqf Board Chairman Zufar Ahmad Farooqui and the legal and administrative teams who have been working to update property records. He said the extra time will help ensure that the remaining properties are recorded in an organised manner.
Uttar Pradesh has about 1.26 lakh Waqf properties. Around 86,000 properties have been uploaded to the UMEED portal. Nearly 40,000 properties are still pending registration after the earlier deadline expired on December 5. The extension is expected to ease pressure on mutawallis and improve accuracy of the online records.
The updated timeline gives the Waqf Board and property caretakers an opportunity to complete the process without disruptions. The move is seen as an administrative step to strengthen governance and accountability in Waqf management across the state.
