Urdu Development Organization Discusses Current Status of Urdu Medium Schools in Delhi

New Delhi: An important meeting of the Urdu Development Organization (UDO) was held at Daryaganj here. Presided over by Professor Tauqeer Ahmad Khan, former head of the Urdu Department at Delhi University, the meeting focused on the current situation of Urdu medium schools in Delhi.

During the session, Professor Khan emphasized that while Urdu has been granted the status of the second official language of Delhi, it has not received the respect it deserves. He criticized the ongoing conspiracy to close Urdu medium schools, asserting that there is a pressing need to enhance facilities in these institutions instead.

Recently, a Delhi government minister advocated for the closure of Urdu medium schools and the establishment of English medium schools where Urdu would be taught as a subject. Khan warned that such actions would severely deteriorate the status of Urdu in Delhi and condemned these conspiracies, urging all individuals and institutions associated with Urdu to oppose them.

Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, president of the UDO, noted that Uttar Pradesh has suffered the most from the closure of Urdu medium schools. He pointed out that the absence of these schools in Uttar Pradesh has brought Urdu to the brink of extinction, and a similar fate is now being plotted for Delhi, which they will not accept.

General Secretary of the UDO, Dr. Parwaz Uloom, stated that if attempts are made to close Urdu medium schools in Delhi, the matter will be taken to court. He assured that the organization would vigorously fight the case in the Delhi High Court, recalling their previous victories in similar battles, including one in the Supreme Court. Dr. Uloom pledged to thwart any conspiracy aimed at shutting down these schools.

The meeting saw participation from numerous attendees, including Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Dr. Ghyasuddin Siddiqui, Naseem Ahmed Gayavi, Aleem Ansari, Comrade Babulal, Dr. Mohammad Arshad, Hakim Murtaza Dehlvi, and Mohammad Imran Qanuji, among others.
