Urdu Kitab Mela Unveils Literary Extravaganza in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan. 9: The bustling metropolitan city of Mumbai is hosting the grand celebration of the 26th Annual Urdu Kitab Mela, a renowned Urdu book fair that promises to captivate literature enthusiasts. Organized by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) in collaboration with Anjuman-I-Islam, the event is being held at the expansive R2 ground, Bandra-Kurla Complex from January 6 to 14.

The Urdu Kitab Mela was inaugurated by Dr. KS Rao, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi. This literary extravaganza is a paradise for bibliophiles, boasting an impressive lineup of 185 stalls offering over 150,000 books. Visitors can enjoy a flat 10% discount on all books on display.

The Mela is more than just a book fair; it is a tradition with a rich history of promoting Urdu language and literature. Having graced Mumbai twice before in 2009 and 2012, the event has also left its mark in Vaniyambadi, and Malegaon in 2023 and 2021, respectively. The 26th edition marks the fourth time Mumbai hosts the Urdu Kitab Mela, and organizers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a historic event.

Ajmal Saeed, the office in-charge of NCPUL, expressed, “Special arrangements have been made to make this year’s book mela a historic event.” Anjuman-I-Islam, in coordination with NCPUL, is playing a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event, to make its resonance felt globally.

To further enrich the experience, the Urdu Kitab Mela is hosting 31 cultural events over the nine days. Collaborating with various cultural and literary groups, including Gul Bootey, Urdu Karwan, Urdu Headmasters’ Association, Pasban-e-Adab, Awami Idara, Urdu Gagan, Quiz Time, and Kaawish Mumbai, the event promises to blend literature and culture for an unforgettable experience.
