Uttarakhand: Muslim Girl’s Body Found in River, Family Alleges Murder

Dehradun: The body of a 16-year-old Muslim girl, Shama Parveen, was discovered in the Yamuna River in Bhimawala village, Uttarakhand, two days after she went missing. Her family has alleged that she was murdered by a stalker, while the police claim she died due to drowning, reported the Clarion India.
Parveen, a Class 12 student, was reported missing on March 11, and her body was found on March 13. According to her father, Mahmood Hasan, a man named Vinod Kumar, who had allegedly been stalking her, was responsible for her disappearance. Hasan claimed that Kumar drugged the family’s tea, rendering them unconscious, before abducting the girl.
Hasan further stated that in 2023, he had complained to the police about Kumar’s behavior, but no action was taken. When Parveen went missing, Hasan confronted Kumar, who denied any involvement. The family later discovered her body in the river, with visible injuries on her face, raising suspicions of foul play.
While the police have maintained that the cause of death was drowning, the family insists that she was murdered and then dumped in the river. “If she had drowned, her lungs would have been filled with water, but that was not the case,” Hasan asserted.
Following the family’s allegations, the police arrested Kumar and another suspect. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand-based organization Muslim Seva Sangathan has urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and deliver justice to the grieving family.
