Aligarh: The Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, observed World Health Day-2025 with a series of engaging and awareness-driven activities held at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan, and at the department. Held under the guidance of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine, the events focused on promoting the theme “Healthy Beginnings and Hopeful Futures” through a skit performance and a globe decoration competition.

A skit on “Awareness towards Vaccination in Neonates/Infants” was performed by postgraduate students and interns of the department at RHTC, Jawan, to educate the rural population about the importance of early childhood vaccination. The enactment used relatable village characters to highlight common myths, fears, and hesitations around vaccines and emphasised the safety and necessity of immunisation in infants.
The storyline revolved around two mothers – Sita, who supported vaccination, and Geeta, who was unsure due to widespread misinformation, influenced further by her mother-in-law, Radha. The characters of the ASHA worker, village Sarpanch, and a doctor from RHTC played pivotal roles in dispelling doubts and providing medically accurate information. The session ended with a community-wide affirmation, chanting the slogan “Teeke jaan bachate hain!” (Vaccines save lives), reflecting the positive impact of the skit on villagers’ awareness.
The activity witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 23 members, including postgraduate students and interns: Dr. Iram Abid, Dr. Ajitha, Dr. Chandramouli Mitra, Dr. Al Hilal Yousuf Sheikh, Dr. Subhash Kumar, Dr. Yuvrajsinh Raj, Dr. Sai Munagala, Dr. Mubah Dilshad, Dr. Prateek Kumar, Dr. Mohd Amir, and interns Bisma, Bhavya, Anjali, Anushka, Arsalan, Anurag, Anzhar, Areeb, Ashish, Dishank, Daniyal, Fabiha, and Faeza.
Faculty members Prof. Uzma Eram and Dr. Tabassum Nawab supervised the programme.
Meanwhile, a Globe Decoration Competition was also organised in the Department of Community Medicine, where students creatively portrayed health-related themes by decorating seven globes within a 30-minute time frame. The competition was judged by a distinguished panel comprising Prof. M. Athar Ansari, Dr. Sameena Ahmad, and Dr. Neema Usman.
