Violence Erupts During Voting in Uttarakhand By-Election

Manglaur, Uttarakhand, July 11: Several Muslim voters were reportedly injured and prevented from voting during a clash that erupted in Uttarakhand’s Manglaur during the by-election on Wednesday.

Videos circulated on social media show many Muslims, including elderly individuals, being attacked, with some visibly bloodied. Witnesses allege that they were obstructed from casting their votes.

Manglaur Congress candidate Qazi Nizamuddin claimed that miscreants were openly firing, although police have stated that there is no confirmation of gunfire at this time.

Nizamuddin, who escorted the injured to the hospital, criticized the lack of emergency response. “Miscreants have been openly firing. This is the murder of democracy. There is also news of someone being injured. There was no ambulance or any other measures taken to take the injured to the hospital,” he told media persons.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed serious concern over the situation. “Bullets were fired. People were injured. Our candidate Qazi Nizamuddin staked his life to send them to the hospital for treatment. Such incidents are also being reported from other places. Congress voters are being intimidated and stopped from reaching the booths. This is a murder of democracy and a serious situation,” Rawat told PTI.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for immediate action to ensure the safety and rights of voters. Authorities are urged to investigate the allegations and ensure a fair electoral process.
