Muzaffarpur: Serious irregularities have been reported in the draft voter list of Sakra Assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district. Residents have alleged that names of Muslim voters have been inserted in the records of Hindu families across several polling booths, raising concern among villagers.
In Sahadullahpur village, examples from the draft list show names from different communities entered under the same household. At booth number 223, the name of Ladli Khatoon, wife of Mohammad Islam, appears along with Poonam Devi under house number two. In another household with five listed members, four are from the same Hindu family while one name, Mohammad Junaid, has been added. In yet another house, one Hindu voter’s name is shown alongside four Muslim names. Similar issues have been found in Katessar panchayat booth lists, where residents say there are no Muslim families, yet around 15 names of Muslim voters have been added under houses numbered 36, 37 and 38.
Villagers have expressed fear that such errors could create disputes over property and also impact the fairness of elections. Some residents see this as a deliberate attempt to manipulate records. Complaints were submitted to the Booth Level Officer, but no corrective action was taken.
The Electoral Registration Officer acknowledged the issue and assured an inquiry. He added that the problem might also be linked to the reorganization of polling stations in some areas. Villagers are demanding a thorough investigation to ensure accuracy and transparency in the final voter list.
