Waqf Amendment Act 2025: A Threat to Muslim Heritage and Rights, Says Advocate Waseem of WPI Telangana

Hyderabad: Advocate Mohammad Waseem, General Secretary of the Welfare Party of India (WPI), Telangana, has voiced strong opposition to the controversial Waqf Amendment Act 2025, calling it a grave threat to the rights, heritage, and identity of India’s Muslim community.
In a strongly worded statement, Advocate Waseem warned that the proposed law—pushed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—aims to drastically weaken the Waqf Board’s authority, giving unprecedented control over Waqf properties to the government and other external institutions.
“For centuries, mosques, madrasas, and graveyards have served as the backbone of Muslim community life. These properties were dedicated to fulfilling religious, social, and educational needs. The Waqf Amendment Act 2025, however, paves the way for their misuse, encroachment, and mismanagement,” said Waseem, speaking to Radiance News.
He highlighted the most dangerous provision of the Act, which allegedly empowers the government to intervene in the administration of Waqf properties without community oversight. “This law could allow the state or its agencies to seize mosques and madrasas under various pretexts, violating the rights of Muslims to manage their own religious institutions,” he added.
Waseem further termed the amendment as part of a broader political agenda by the BJP to undermine Muslim institutions. “This is not just a legal change—it’s a strategic move to erode the autonomy and dignity of Muslim heritage and belief. The BJP government has repeatedly targeted Muslim rights, and this is another step in that direction.”
He warned that the law could lead to the closure of many madrasas and religious centers and even facilitate the sale of Waqf properties, turning them into profit-driven assets rather than sacred spaces.
“This is an attack not just on property, but on faith and identity,” Waseem stated. “If enacted, it will leave a lasting scar on the spiritual and cultural foundations of our community.”
Calling for unity and resistance, Advocate Waseem urged Muslims across the country to oppose the Act through legal channels and public mobilization. “We must raise our voices on every possible platform. These properties are symbols of our history, faith, and culture—they cannot be handed over to those who neither understand their significance nor respect them.”
He emphasized that the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is a “black law” that attempts to erase a centuries-old legacy and called on the Muslim community to stand firm and united against its implementation.
