Waqf Amendment Bill “Bulldozed” Through JPC, Alleges Jairam Ramesh

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has strongly criticized the handling of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, claiming that it was “bulldozed” through the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) without due democratic process. He alleged that the committee bypassed detailed discussions and ignored opposition voices, undermining parliamentary norms.
Ramesh asserted that the Congress would vehemently oppose the bill, describing it as unnecessary and warning of its potential consequences. He also accused the ruling party of manipulating the legislative process to push the bill forward without sufficient debate.
Emphasizing Congress’s stance, he stated that the party would explore all democratic avenues to resist the bill, coordinating with allies in the INDIA bloc. Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also raised objections, highlighting the omission of dissenting notes from the JPC report.
Despite opposition protests, the bill was accepted in the Rajya Sabha, triggering further controversy and political tensions.
