Waqf Amendment Bill Sparks Protests Against Bihar Minister Zama Khan in Kaimur

Patna: The Waqf Amendment Bill has triggered widespread discontent among Muslims in Bihar, with protests intensifying against Bihar’s Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Zama Khan in Kaimur district. On Tuesday, hundreds of people gathered in Bhabhua, the district headquarters of Kaimur, to express their anger against the minister who is accused of supporting the controversial bill, reported the Madhyamam.
Protesters raised slogans and carried placards demanding Zama Khan’s resignation, stating that the bill undermines the constitutional rights of the Muslim community and threatens the sanctity of Waqf properties. Community leaders alleged that the amendments were made without proper consultation and could lead to government overreach in managing Waqf assets.
The protest in Kaimur is part of a larger wave of dissent seen in various parts of the country where Muslim organizations have come out strongly against the bill. Many have expressed fears that the amendments would weaken the autonomy of Waqf institutions and allow state interference in religious endowments.
Demonstrators vowed to continue their agitation until the bill is repealed or suitably amended. They also warned of intensified statewide protests if the government fails to address their concerns.
