Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi reiterated that the Narendra Modi Government is bringing the Bill to amend Waqf Act on the basis of hatred for Muslims.
The Hyderabad MP alleged that the Modi Government is bringing the law to snatch the mosques, dargahs, khankhas, graveyards and inactive Waqf properties of Muslims and to reward people who have encroached the Waqf assets.
Owaisi was speaking at the 67th revival anniversary of AIMIM at party headquarters Darussalam on Saturday.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to remove Waqf by user clause. “BK Mukherjee has written a book on Hindu dharam in which he said that by usage a property becomes property of the temple. When by usage it can become property of temple, I want to ask our Hindu brothers if by usage a property cannot become Waqf,” he said.
The MP mentioned that the Supreme Court upheld Waqf by user in Ram Mandir judgment.
Owaisi also slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his recent remark in the State Assembly that those who study Urdu become ‘mulle’. He said the remark shows Yogi’s intellectual capacity. “It is clear that UP CM doesn’t know Urdu. But only he can answer why he did not become a scientist. Nobody who belongs to the ideology the UP CM comes from participated in the freedom struggle of this country,” he said.
The MP pointed out that famous Urdu poet Firaq Gorkahpuri was from Gorakhpur, the hometown of Adityanath. “Firaq was not a Muslim. He was Raghupati Sahay but he was a renowned Urdu poet. UP CM doesn’t even know Urdu is a part of Uttar Pradesh’s culture.”
Owaisi said RSS-BJP people don’t know that Urdu is protected by the Constitution, just like other languages. “They don’t know every Muslim doesn’t speak Urdu, this is not the language of Muslims. This has been the language of this country’s freedom. This is the language of this country…BJP wants to build this country as per one language, one religion, one ideology and one leader.”
Asaduddin Owaisi also lashed out at those who say temples were demolished 400 years ago.
“They say everywhere in media that a temple was demolished 400 years ago. American historian Richard M. Eaton writes in his book that 80 temples were destroyed from the 11th century until 1600. Pushyamitra Shunga demolished thousands of Buddhist places of worship. Pallava emperor Narasimhavarman stole a Ganesh idol in 1640CE in Chalukya capital of Vatapi. Hiuen Tsang wrote that Shashanka cut down Bodhi tree. In 10th century, King Indra demolished Kalapriya temple.”
“They ask me to speak up, what do I have to do with Mughals? They were emperors. Emperors have no religion. They use religion to expand their rule,” the AIMIM chief added.
He also asked BJP why it was not providing reservation for Marathas. “If Narendra Modi and BJP have so much of affinity for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, provide reservation for Marathas. Why do you not do that,” he asked.
Earlier, Owaisi unfurled the party flag to mark the party’s 67th revival celebrations in the presence of senior leaders, party MLAs and corporators.
He recalled how his grandfather Maulvi Abdul Wahed Owaisi strove hard to protect the rights of Muslims and other minorities enshrined in the Indian Constitution by reviving the party on this day in 1958 with a new party constitution.
He said undeterred by the atmosphere of fear and misery among the Muslims in the aftermath of Police Action in 1948, he took up the task of organising the community and gave it new hope.
