Kollam – The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) organized a Waqf protection rally in Kollam on Monday, emphasizing the need to safeguard religious endowments under the slogan ‘Waqf Protection for Social Security’, reported the Times of India.
Addressing a public meeting after the rally, Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunju Moulavi, State General Secretary of the Dakshina Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime, controlled by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is attempting to replace the Indian Constitution with the Manusmriti through the Waqf amendment. He warned that such amendments pose a serious threat to the democratic and secular fabric of the country.
“The Waqf amendment bill is not just about endowments; it is an attack on the Constitution itself,” he said. “India is respected globally for its commitment to democracy and secularism. Our places of worship—mosques, temples, churches, and gurdwaras—are symbols of this diversity. Any aggression against them challenges the very essence of secularism,” he added.
SDPI State President C.P.A. Latheef presided over the function, where various speakers expressed concern over the implications of the amendment.
